Our Australian driver will be honoured twice this week in the run-up to his home grand prix with a civic reception in his home town and a stand named after him unveiled at Albert Park.
This afternoon (Monday) Mark will travel in a motorcade through the streets of Queanbeyan before a civic reception at the Council Chambers at 12.30pm.
The town’s mayor, Tim Overall, said: “Queanbeyan is proud of all of its sporting stars and is honoured to have such high-quality sports people representing it. The people of Queanbeyan have followed Mark’s career closely and the town celebrated as one when he crossed the finish line in Germany to record his first Grand Prix victory. Such an amazing performance deserves to be honoured.”
Albert Park is also honouring Australia’s current favourite F1 son by naming a new stand after Mark for this year’s race.
The Webber Stand will be situated between the existing Fangio and Senna stands, and will offer spectators a fantastic view of the race coming out of Turn 16 and heading down pit straight.
