Hailing from Hastings, Seb ‘Bas’ Keep is one of the UK’s hottest BMX riders, whose honours include Best Rider at the Nike Tunnel Jam, 1st place at the Red Bull Soweto Sessions and first places at the Urban Games, Backyard Jam and various big air events.
He first blasted into the BMX scene over a decade ago, making a name for himself by backflipping the ditch at a Backyard Jam event. Since then, he’s become regarded as one of the world’s most promising riders with a trick rate second only to US BMX legend Gary Young.
Oh, and he’s also raced Top Gear’s James May, as you can see on the link below…
Bas versus May. Here's what you need to know about Bas...
D.O.B: 08/02/83
Discipline: BMX Street, Dirt, Vert and Park
Which living person do you most admire?
Matt Hoffman. Partly for the huge amount he’s done for BMX and also because it’s not been an easy ride for him, but he’s persevered to become the all-time king of BMX.
What is your favourite word?
‘BMX’ – because it means more to me than anything else.
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
A massive back garden filled with ramps and trails.
What’s the worst thing anyone’s ever said to you?
My mum told me to ‘grow up’, referring to my love of BMX. It’s was also the best thing though, as it spurred me on to success in the sport.
How would you like to be remembered?
As someone who didn’t follow the crowd.
Have a look what happened when Bas, Dan Lacey and Ben Hennon popped up to a disused reservoir in Newcastle last year: Reservoir Sessions.
