The inaugural Red Bull Break 5 event took place in the late summer sunshine in Cornwall last weekend.

Red Bull Break 5 is a team-based surf contest made up of five members including pros, girls, longboarders and various age groups from 16 to 40 plus.

Having been a closely guarded secret all year, the location was finally announced as Gwithian Beach, Godrevy, which is situated on beautiful National Trust land right on the beach and next to the Sandsifter bar/restaurant.

Unusual swells in the North East of England of up to 20 feet did not deter teams heading to the south to enjoy this event, which truly captured the imagination of the surf scene as something new and totally different to anything else on the calendar.

The teams competing in Red Bull Break 5 travelled from around Cornwall, Devon and Wales and spectators from as far afield as London and Scotland.

They arrived for registration on the Saturday morning and the action began with mixed category heats. That evening the water action was followed by a BBQ, acoustic guitars and some beats into the early hours at the Sandsifter.

The next morning all of the teams were up early for the category heats to see who would be crowned the best Red Bull Break 5 crew in 2010 and so it was that The A-Team from St Agnes, Cornwall ran out winners.

Congratulations to Jeremy Walter, Shaun Skilton, Josh Ward, Trev Garland and Marcus Lascelles who were crowned champs and await the prize of a trip abroad courtesy of Carve magazine.
