Unlike the band in Dr Hook’s 70s lament, Shaun White has made it on to the cover of the Rolling Stone as the guitar-playing star pays tribute to Jimi Hendrix by burning his snowboard on the cover of the latest issue.
It’s the second time the snowboarder has graced the cover of the iconic magazine after he was featured following his first Olympic gold win in Torino in 2006.
Inside the latest issue, he talks about his sporting talent, his business acumen and his love of classic rock: White owns three Gibson Les Pauls and says Whole Lotta Love is his favourite-ever song. “I think guitar is the best thing in the world,” he says. “It’s the only thing where no matter what I do, I can’t do it all myself.”
Already a star before the Games, interest in White has gained more and more momentum since his triumph on the Vancouver halfpipe. Since then he has appeared on Tonight Show, Oprah and been snapped on the red carpet at the Academy Awards.
All that, and this…
