After a challenging Friday, everything came together for Sebastian Vettel as he claimed pole position for the ninth time this season.
'There is a saying – "don't count your chickens before they hatch" – after yesterday's practice things didn’t look so good as I hadn’t been able to do that many laps, but it went amazingly well today.
Getting pole wasn’t easy: we’d only had a very short time on the track and remember that it's a new circuit. We knew everyone was going to be close, so we decided not risk too much. We performed consistently well throughout qualifying and were able to hold our nerve.
Mark demonstrated what the car was capable of in the practice sessions and I think that it all played out pretty well. Starting on the clean side of the track will be an advantage, but I’m more anxious to see what the weather has in store.
Personally, I’d like to wrap up the whole track and preserve it exactly the way it is until tomorrow, but I don't think anyone’s about to do that for me.
My tyre situation also improved. Friday wasn't such a good day for them but after qualifying I checked out the Ferrari’s tyres and they didn't look that good… It all comes down how much you push and how the car takes to the track. Everything can look different in the race.
Can't wait for tomorrow. Finger’s crossed!'
