England's mammoth first innings score of 710 for seven declared put paid to any chance of India winning the penultimate Test in the four match series and the hosts wrapped up the series win by bowling India out for....
The win means that England move ahead of India in the ICC World Rankings and although Broad had a quieter match than of late, the Nottinghamshire paceman picked up six wickets, which means he now has 21 wickets in the series, with the last Test at The Oval to come next week.
India were left with a mountain to climb after England vice-captain Alastair Cook notched 294 runs in the hosts' first innings and the tourists were bowled out in their second innings for fifty runs less than Cook managed on his own, leaving England the winners by the huge margin of an innings and 242 runs.
The delighted England captain, Andrew Strauss said of the win: "It's fantastic to know that what we have aspired to we have reached today. This [getting to number one in the rankings] is something we stated we wanted to do and it is a great testament to the players we have in our squad to have achieved that."
The final Test of a one-sided series begins at The Oval on Thursday, August 18.
