The 80th Monte Carlo Rally drew to a close with victory going to Sébastien Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena, their sixth win in the principality (pictured, top). The eight-time World Champions enjoyed a clean sweep as they also picked up the three bonus points awarded to the winner of the Power Stage. Loeb’s Citroën team-mate Mikko Hirvonen and co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen were fourth overall in the rally. This result means that Citroën Total WRT takes the lead in the Manufacturers’ World Championship. Dani Sordo (pictured, below) posted another excellent result for the MINI team in the marque’s first Monte Carlo outing for decades, finishing in a strong second place with co-driver Carlos Del Barrio.

After running as high as fourth and keeping up with the boys in the turbos in his normally aspirated Skoda Fabia S2000, Sébastien Ogier and co-driver Julian Ingrassia cut a corner too sharply on Thursday’s final stage and crashed, prematurely ending their first WRC outing of the year in the new car. Despite fears that Ingrassia’s arm might be broken, the two fortunately turned out to be unscathed. "That was the biggest accident of my career,” said Ogier. “We were lucky that it wasn't worse."

The world’s greatest Alpine racers descend on the town of Kitzbühel in Austria on Saturday to take part in the prestigious Hahnenkammrennen downhill race. Veteran Swiss skier Didier Cuche, who on Thursday announced his retirement at the end of this season, showed that he still has what it takes with a victory that has broken all records. The first athlete to triumph five times on the Streif and now officially the oldest winner of the Kitzbühel Downhill, Cuche has once again proved his credentials as one of the greatest downhillers of all time. Second place in the race classic went to Tyrolean skier Romed Baumann and third place went to Austrian Klaus Kröll. Red Bull-backed racers Erik Guay and Aksel Lund Svindal finished the race placed 11th and 14th respectively.

Lindsey Vonn missed out on a podium spot at the World Cup giant slalom in Slovenia this weekend by just three-hundredths of a second despite a spectacular recovery to prevent a crash near the end of the race. French skier Tessa Worley won the gold on Saturday after first-run leader Elisabeth Goergl of Austria crashed at the bottom of the second run. "I skied the top well, but it was very bumpy at the bottom," Vonn said. "I did my best, but it just wasn't good enough for first."

The people of Avià – a town located 150km from Barcelona – lined the streets to pay tribute to their most famous son Marc Coma as he returned home following his second-place securing performance at the 2012 Dakar Rally. Following a formal ceremony at the City Hall, Marc thanked the crowd for their support and then led a motorcycle caravan that travelled several miles through the streets and roads of the region.

Ski jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer captured his 39th World Cup victory after jumps of 131.5m and 132m gave him 300.3 points at Zakopane. The Austrian was looking to get his season back on track following his controversial disqualification in Bad Mitterndorf Bardal earlier this month, when repairs to his suit made ahead of the second run were deemed to have been illegal. Schlierenzauer now stands at second place in the overall season rankings.
