The home of UK yacht racing and one of the most iconic sailing venues in Europe, Cowes on the Isle of Wight, prepares to welcome the Extreme Sailing Series for its second leg. On the day celebrities Simon Le Bon, Ben Fogle and Brawn F1 chief Nick Fry will be vying for fifth man spots on board. While keeping himself nice and dry in the public bar, BBC Radio 1's Rob da Bank will be performing a live set. Extreme 40s racing will be held later in the day to make sure that everyone can avail of the fantastic amenities and entertainment being served up in lavish portions at the Egypt Point race village.
All five venues have now been confirmed for the 2010 Extreme Sailing Series European circuit, and there are more races than ever, with up to ten teams competing head-to-head in an attempt to land the prestigious crown which is currently held by Britain's Pete Cumming and his crew on Oman Sail Masirah. They won't be relinquishing that title easily though.
Unlike the previous year's format, in 2010 every day of sailing will count, with four days of points scoring racing in Sète (FRA), Trapani (ITA) and Almería (ESP) - whilst the organisers, OC Events, will capitalise on the only UK leg being played out at the same time as Cowes Week with six days of racing for the teams. The opening day in each venue is a dedicated point-scoring ‘Media Day’ with all fifth man slots reserved for journalists and reporters and the remaining days will play host to not only the Media but VIP guests, with courses laid close to shore to entertain the general public.
