RED BULL INTRODUCES THE WORLD’S SMALLEST VELODROME TO THE UK FIXED GEAR SCENE
On 2nd October 2011, Red Bull will be bringing the world’s smallest velodrome to The Old Fruit Market in Glasgow to challenge fixed gear riders from across the country for the first time in Scotland.
Red Bull Mini Drome will engage both body and mind as riders navigate around a unique and technically challenging course reaching speeds of up to 80 km/ph.
The purpose built track has been engineered in Germany by Velotrack, the team who built the velodromes for the Atlanta Olympics and the Delhi Commonwealth Games. The track maintains race worthy dimensions in the smallest possible size to enable a single pursuit.
The event will be open to fixed gear riders of all ages. Over a 100 competitors will have the opportunity to qualify in a single timed race and will be timed using the Velotrack Timing System. The racers with the quickest time across 10 laps will progress through the competition to the finals which will be a single pursuit race format.
The Old Fruit Market has a capacity of 400 people and will be free entry on a first come first served basis, however a donation to Glasgow Bike Shed or Wings for Life would be welcome.
Neil Cousins from Charge Bikes said, “We’re excited to be part of Red Bull Mini Drome once again. After a thrilling and successful night at the last event in York Hall, London, we wanted to help bring even more to Glasgow.”
Charge are providing gold, silver and bronze custom Charge bikes for the three winners and all those who qualify for the final rounds will receive a custom Musette Bag crammed with goodies such as a limited edition Charge Saddle to celebrate the Red Bull Mini Drome in Glasgow.
